A
Letter From The Executive Director
I recently celebrated my three year anniversary as the Executive Director
of the Michigan City Family YMCA. As I look back on the last years,
I am thrilled and amazed at the advances the YMCA has made over that
time. I have worked in YMCAs in five different states, and I have
never seen a YMCA make a turnaround like I have seen her in Michigan
City.
What am I talking about? An almost explosive growth in aquatic programs,
youth sports, community education classes, child care and preschool.
The success of new programs such as the Y's Women's Faire, Healthy
Kids Day, and the Barracuda Swim Team. Membership which has vitally
doubled.
The visual changes to the YMCA have been astounding, too! A new GetFit
exercise room, new exercise machines, new roofs (no B buckets needed
to catch leaks!), better safety equipment, and so much more. Just
this year we have made the pool a brighter and safer place with the
installation of new lights, and have just finished painting the gym
and refinishing the gym floor.
These changes and advancements are not the work of one or two or three
people-but are the result of the hard work and support of volunteers
and staff and donors and business and community leaders. To list all
of them would take up the whole brochure, however, a small list of
some of the YMCA's supporters can be found elsewhere in this brochure.
But we are not content to rest on our laurels! Plans for additional
programs and building renovations are on going. We are working hard
to continue to build strong kids, strong families, and a stronger
community. Come join us
